Short autobiography in 8th grade

By Brian Tomasik

This was a project for health class when I was in 8th grade (fall 2000).

Past

My mother said that as a young child, I was curious, creative, inquisitive, observant, and shy. I did well in school and was especially good at math. I was interested in Monopoly, dinosaurs, reptiles, amphibians, rocks, fossils, and other things. I disliked many types of food, school, homework, housecleaning, and gardening. My family and teachers have taught me many things and supported me. One of my main accomplishments was making hours and hours of movies (although many of them were not very good). I also memorized more than the first hundred digits of pi.

pi=3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974 9445907816406286208998628034825342117067982148086513

Present

Presently, I am quiet, shy, particular, attentive to detail, and responsible. I am about 16 decimeters tall. I usually wear striped shirts and sweatpants. I don’t listen to music very often and I don’t like any band or groups. I like to watch Pokemon and Sabrina The Teenage Witch as well as shows like Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, Mr. Bean, and Rocky and Bullwinkle. My hobbies include moviemaking, collecting rocks, playing Nintendo, playing chess, fishing [Brian in 2014 looks back on this with horror], and swimming. I am good at math, science, German, and other things. Getting good grades is important to me. My family members are most important to me because they support me and help me. Growing up on a farm and being surrounded by nature made me love nature and learn how hard some work is. My short term goals include getting good grades the rest of this year, doing well on the Earth Science Regents, and making a few movies over the summer. My long term goals include doing well in high school, getting into a good college, and getting a fun job with pretty good pay.

Future

20 years from now, I hope to live in this area. I am an engineer, possibly designing alternative energy sources. I will be similar to the way I was in eighth grade because I will like math and science and I will be concerned about the environment [Brian in 2014: an update on this prediction]. I reached my long term goals because I will have gotten good grades in high school, I will have gotten into a good college, and I will have a fun job. I have impacted the world by helping the environment and providing cheaper and cleaner energy, as well.

Scenario: Our engineering group has just finished an improved solar panel technology. The president who was just elected for his second term, Ralph Nader, has supported our group’s efforts. He is trying to make alternative energy more widespread and efficient.
