Introduction
This page lists assorted tidbits about myself.
TODO: ADD STUFF
Pronouncing my last name
As far as I know, "Tomasik" is pronounced as tuh-MAH-sick, where tuh sounds like the "tu" part of "tugboat" and MAH sounds like the "ma" part of "mass".
Miscellaneous
As a teenager, I went bowling from time to time. I'd guess I bowled maybe ~30 total games during those years, usually on my own but a few times as part of physical-education class. My best score ever was on the very first time I tried bowling, and I never was able to beat that score again. I think the initial score was something around ~150?
At the end of one episode of Life with Louie, Louie's mom tries bowling for the first time and gets a strike. She asks what that's called. Louie's dad grumpily replies: "Beginner's luck." My situation was also beginner's luck.
Mild misophonia
Since I was a teenager, I noticed that I have a strong aversion to the sounds of certain people chewing and drinking. It's similar to the reaction that many people have to fingernails on a chalkboard. It doesn't seem to happen for eating and drinking in movies, only in real life. And it seems to mainly happen when my family members do it, not as much when strangers or friends do it.
This negative reaction to specific sounds is called misophonia. Fortunately for me, it rarely happens, because I rarely have meals with my family members.
Wikipedia ("Misophonia"): "One study found that around 80% of the sounds were related to the mouth (eating, slurping, chewing or popping gum, whispering, etc.)".
I also have ASMR in reaction to some sounds, such as whispering or someone besides me turning the pages of a book. Some ASMR enthusiasts enjoy eating and drinking sounds, which I do not. :)
