Privacy statement

As of the time of this writing, this privacy statement applies to reducing-suffering.org, briantomasik.com, and a third site I'm currently creating, since these sites all use the same structure. I might make changes in the future, but hopefully I'll remember to update this page if so.

From ~2007 until mid-Jan 2019, I used StatCounter to count page views and report other information. Eventually I found I wasn't using the data very much, since I already had more than enough feedback about my websites to read in the form of comments on Facebook, Reddit, and other places. So for now, I've decided to omit any special web analytics from the site, both for simplicity and for the sake of visitor privacy. Because there are no StatCounter-type analytics, I don't believe this site uses any cookies (though let me know if I'm wrong about that).

Without StatCounter-type analytics, I also don't need any JavaScript on ~97% of my pages. (The other ~3% of pages have built-in calculators that require JavaScript.) I prefer to avoid using JavaScript for ordinary presentation of content on the page to make the site equally useable by people (like me) who disable JavaScript by default when browsing the web.

Even though I'm not currently using StatCounter-type analytics, my hosting company apparently still keeps basic logs of requests to the site, including IP address, date/time, what was requested, referring URL, and user agent.
